During the last year, most Americans needed a healthcare visit, and due to the pandemic, most had at least one virtual doctor visit. Here's an honest look at the pros and cons.
During the last year, most Americans needed a healthcare visit, and due to the pandemic, most had at least one virtual doctor visit. Virtual healthcare has clear advantages — but also real limitations.
The Pros
- Convenience. See a doctor from your couch, your office, or your car.
- Speed. No waiting rooms. Most virtual visits happen within minutes to hours.
- Cost. Virtual visits are typically cheaper than in-person visits.
- Access. Available in all 50 states, regardless of local provider availability.
- Prescriptions. Medications can be prescribed and sent to your pharmacy electronically.
The Cons
- No physical examination. A doctor can't palpate, auscultate, or visually inspect through a screen.
- No diagnostics. No strep tests, X-rays, EKGs, or blood work.
- Incomplete resolution. Many conditions require in-person follow-up, sending patients to urgent care or the ER anyway.
- Lower trust. Some patients feel less confident in a diagnosis delivered over the phone.
The Best of Both Worlds
Mobile healthcare combines the convenience of virtual consultations with the diagnostic capability of in-person care. Start with a telehealth call; if diagnostics are needed, a mobile unit comes to you.
